FNBO Honored with ABA Foundation Community Commitment Award

OMAHA, Neb.  October 31, 2019 – First National Bank of Omaha was nationally recognized by the American Bankers Association Foundation for its Habitat for Humanity for Omaha Loan Fund with a 2019 ABA Foundation Community Commitment Award. The award was given to First National Bank of Omaha for its efforts in the Affordable Housing category and was presented during ABA’s Annual Convention in Seattle on October 29.

First National Bank of Omaha created the Habitat for Humanity of Omaha Loan Fund in 2018 to increase Habitat Omaha's ability to build or rehabilitate even more houses for low income families. The 2018 pilot year resulted in 32 loans to 32 low income families totaling $3.6 million. Currently, the fund consists of 13 partner banks, as well as Omaha 100, a community development financial institution that issues low-interest mortgages for low- and moderate income families.

“We are so pleased to have First National Bank of Omaha as our partner,” said Amanda Brewer, CEO, Habitat for Humanity of Omaha. “They saw the need and the opportunity. They brought their skills to the table, served as leader and helped us recruit other banks. As a result, we have a loan pool fund up to $7 million to help finance mortgages in our community.”

Entries were divided into seven categories including affordable housing, community and economic development, financial education, economic inclusion, protecting older Americans, supporting military families and volunteerism.

The selection committee chose the winning banks based on the creativity and thoughtfulness of programs — traditional or innovative in nature and structure — that embody the ideals of corporate social responsibility and demonstrate success in measurable terms.

“Habitat for Humanity for Omaha Loan Fund demonstrates First National Bank of Omaha’s strong and passionate commitment to bettering the lives of its customers and local community,” said Rob Nichols, ABA president and CEO. “Their work embodies the mission of the Community Commitment Awards and they are a truly well-deserved recipient.”

“First National Bank of Omaha and our employees are always working to find new and meaningful ways to positively impact our community,” said Alec Gorynski, Vice President, Community Development and Corporate Philanthropy, First National Bank of Omaha. “We are humbled and honored to accept this award.”
